Fair Grounds, December 13, 2024 — Gilded Ruler, a five-year-old bay gelding by Into Mischief out of Golden Cropper (AUS) (by More Than Ready), delivered a thrilling performance in the 7th race at Fair Grounds, an Allowance Optional Claiming event contested over 5 1/2 furlongs on turf. With Brian Joseph Hernandez, Jr. aboard, he charged from the rear of the field to claim victory by 2 1/4 lengths, stopping the clock at 1:05.78.

Race Recap

Breaking from post 6 as the 2-1 favorite, Gilded Ruler trailed early, settling near the back of the nine-horse field. Navigating a traffic-filled stretch run, Hernandez guided the gelding six-wide into the upper stretch. From there, Gilded Ruler unleashed a powerful rally, overtaking pacesetters and drawing clear in the final sixteenth to secure the $36,000 winner’s share of the $60,000 purse.

His final surge earned him an Equibase Speed Figure of 100, the highest in his career to date, marking a return to form after a fourth-place finish at Churchill Downs last month.

Consistency and Class

Gilded Ruler’s latest win is a testament to his consistent performances over multiple seasons. With a career record of 14 starts, 4 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds, he has accumulated lifetime earnings exceeding $220,000. His ability to adapt to varying conditions and his steady improvement solidify his reputation as a reliable competitor.

Pedigree and Sales History for Gilded Ruler

Bred by Mt Brilliant Farm & Ranch, LLC in Kentucky, Gilded Ruler is by the prolific sire Into Mischief, known for producing elite runners. His dam, Golden Cropper (AUS), adds an international flair and stamina from the More Than Ready line.

Gilded Ruler’s sales history highlights his appeal as a racing prospect. Initially RNA’ing at $375,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, he later sold for $260,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale to Juddmonte Farms. Highlander Training Center eventually acquired him for $130,000 at the Keeneland January Sale, showcasing the strategic eye of Shepherd Equine Advisers in recognizing his potential.

Trained for Success

Trainer Joe Sharp has expertly managed Gilded Ruler’s career, guiding him to incremental improvement with each campaign. Sharp’s strategic placements and the jockey’s tactical precision played key roles in this latest win, demonstrating the strength of the gelding’s connections.

Looking Ahead for Gilded Ruler

With his commanding finish at Fair Grounds, Gilded Ruler’s team is exploring future opportunities to further showcase his capabilities. His versatility and strong closing kick position him as a contender against tougher competition.
